Non-Immigrant Visas

Nonimmigrant Employment visas allow foreign nationals to enter and work in the United States for a limited time. Employers often need to sponsor foreign workers and thus need to engage in the process of obtaining visas. Employment-based nonimmigrant visas include the following:

Immigrant Visas (Green Card Based)

The current scheme for employment-based immigrant visas includes three common preference categories. 

EB-1 (First Preference): priority workers, including workers of extraordinary ability, outstanding professors and researchers, and multinational executives/managers

EB-2 (Second Preference): professionals with advanced degrees and those of exceptional ability

EB-3 (Third Preference): professionals, skilled workers, and other workers.

Student Visas

There are two nonimmigrant visa categories for people who wish to study as full-time students in the United States.

F-1 Student Visa

The visa allows people to enter the United States as full-time students at colleges, universities, and other educational institutions that are authorized to accept international students. The applicant must be enrolled in a program of study that will culminate in a degree, diploma, or certificate.

M-1 Student Visa

The M-1 visa category allows students to enter the United States to pursue vocational training or other non-academic programs. The student must be enrolled in a full time program of study.

Student Visas

F-1 Student Visa
